What Is the CAC Score?

The CAC Score is the CA Casinos, Palo Alto Organization independent 0 to 100 rating for online casinos, built only for California players. It combines what thousands of Californians told us in our player survey with our own hands-on testing across eight weighted pillars, so the number reflects local experience, not generic marketing.

Built in California, for California

The project began in Palo Alto with a small panel of local players and one frustration: the advice online did not match what it was actually like to deposit, play and cash out as a Californian. From that starting point we expanded across the state, sampling players from Southern California to the Bay Area, the Central Valley, Sacramento, the Central Coast and the North State. That Palo-Alto-rooted, California-wide study is why we are the CA Casinos, Palo Alto Organization, and why the rating is the CAC Score.

Read every CAC Score through a California lens. Only California residents count in the survey, and the weights reflect what California players told us matters most. A casino can be excellent nationally and still score differently here.

CAC Score vs star rating

California

CAC Score · /100

California-specific and data-driven, from our California player survey plus local testing. This is the rigorous number we show our work on, all the way down to the pillar.

United States

Star Rating · /5

Our overall editorial verdict for US players, the familiar at-a-glance reputation rating. Think of it as the national context next to the California-specific CAC Score. As a rule of thumb, stars are roughly the CAC Score divided by 20.

Inside the study

The CAC Score is backed by a four-part research study. We used stratified random sampling plus snowball sampling, analyzed the data in SPSS with t-tests, variance and 95% confidence intervals, and grounded each pillar in established research on trust, satisfaction and decision-making. The full methodology, maths and data are published here:

Methodology note: participation was voluntary and limited to verified, legally eligible California residents aged 21 and over. We report aggregates only and never present a CAC Score backed by data we have not collected.

How we test every casino, the same way

  1. Verify the license on the regulator registry and check the operator history and ownership.
  2. Register a real account and complete identity verification as a California player would.
  3. Deposit (crypto and card where supported) and play across slots, tables and live dealer.
  4. Request a withdrawal and time it. That real figure feeds the Payout pillar.
  5. Contact support on live chat and email and log the response times.
  6. Score all eight pillars, fold in the California survey sentiment, and publish the breakdown.

Who scores it

CAC Scores are assigned by the CA Casinos, Palo Alto Organization reviewers, not by the casinos. Reviews carry the analyst byline and a last-tested date, and we re-score when bonuses, ownership or payout performance change.
