SAFE Student Panel Discusses Self-advocacy, Learning & Attention Differences

Thursday, March 30, 7-8:30pm Palo Alto High School, Haymarket Theatre

This panel will discuss the challenges they face and strengths they bring as students with learning and attention difficulties. They will explain and demonstrate strategies for self advocacy. Questions will be posed by a facilitator and by the audience. All panelists have learning and attention difficulties and are members of SAFE, the student branch of Parents Education Network. SAFE is a student community (between the ages of 13-19) which meets monthly to organize events, coordinate their mentoring program and prepare for presentations such as this. They strive to educate, mentor and support students, parents and teachers, and spread awareness on the importance of cognitive diversity. Recommended for middle and high school students and their parents. Este panel discutirá los desafíos que enfrentan y las fortalezas que traen como estudiantes con dificultades de aprendizaje y atención. Explicarán y demostrarán estrategias para la autopromoción. Las preguntas serán hechas por un facilitador y por la audiencia. Todos los panelistas tienen dificultades de aprendizaje y atención y son miembros de SAFE, la rama estudiantil de la Red de Educación de Padres. SAFE es una comunidad estudiantil (entre las edades de 13-19 años) que se reúne mensualmente para organizar eventos, coordinar su programa de mentoría y prepararse para presentaciones como esta. Se esfuerzan a educar, orientar y apoyar a estudiantes, padres y maestros, y difundir la conciencia sobre la importancia de la diversidad cognitiva. Recomendado para estudiantes y padres de secundaria y preparatoria. Este evento es copatrocinado por el Comité Asesor Comunitario de Palo Alto para Educación Especial, la Red de Educación de Padres y PAUSD.
